M didn't feel so great after we got our 12 hour travel finished - general dizziness, peripheral vertigo. Everything didn't seem to be alright, so we set out to get things sorted with our travel insurance. A day trip to a local hospital could even prove to be entertaining - who knows :)
Service at Bangkok international hospital was extremely good, and everything worked rather well. No long waits or queues, water available everywhere and staff talking good English.
Live music by a trio throughout the day + personal assistant to push you in a wheelchair through the whole process.. Eh?
After some 4 hours of consultations, various tests and all that other jazz a template diagnosis was written - peripheral vertigo, due to natural difference in the pressure / balance sensitivity in the ears. Apparently things like this can just happen due to pressure changes - the condition just takes a bit of time to correct itself.
In the evening, too tired to seek out a proper place to eat, we decided on the closest and clearly touristy, european-style eatery we could find. Based on the price / quality ratio of the place, the old maxim for travel holds - don't go for european food unless you're in Europe. Well, at least the food seemed rather amusing (pics below).
Silom neighbourhood - how many young boys would you like tonight, sir?
While walking down the streets in the neighbourhood, we were offered a catalogue of young boys - which seems like a bit unexpected proposition for a couple. But when you think about it - there must, sadly, be demand for this type of "entertainment" as well.
All in all, no points for the food, but a positive note for no further worries about balance and blurred vision.
